Insurance + cosmetic

Insurance for cosmetic dentistry — what's realistic.

Most cosmetic work isn't covered by traditional insurance. Here's where coverage applies, where it doesn't, and what UNO patients actually use to pay for cosmetic cases.

What's usually covered.

Functional restorations — crowns to repair damaged teeth, fillings, bridges replacing missing teeth. These often have a cosmetic effect but are billed as restorative. Most PPOs cover 50–80% after deductible.

What isn't.

Pure aesthetics — veneers on healthy teeth, professional whitening, bonding for cosmetic reasons alone, smile design. These are out of pocket on essentially every plan.

How UNO patients pay.

Three main paths: CareCredit (0% APR for 6–24 months), HFD Patient Payment Plans (fixed monthly up to 60 months), HSA/FSA for partial coverage of restorative components. We help you optimize the mix at the consult.

Common questions.

Are there any "cosmetic" insurance plans?

Some discount plans (not insurance) offer fixed cosmetic pricing. They're typically not better than what we'd quote directly.

Can I use my HSA?

Yes for restorative components. Pure cosmetic work is generally not HSA-eligible. We itemize so you know what counts.

Does UNO accept Delta Dental for cosmetic?

We accept Delta for restorative. Pure cosmetic still comes out of pocket.
