Same-day tooth replacement — how it actually works.
"Same-day implant" can mean three different things. Here's what each one is, when it's appropriate, and what we do at UNO.
Option 1 — same-day temporary on a healing implant.
Implant is placed surgically, and a temporary crown is attached the same day to keep the gum shaped. The temporary doesn't bear full chewing force for 3–4 months while the bone integrates. Best for front teeth where appearance matters most.
Option 2 — immediate-load implant.
Implant + final crown placed and torqued in one visit. Only safe when bone quality is excellent and the implant has high primary stability. We screen carefully and use it sparingly.
Option 3 — same-day bridge over an extraction.
Adjacent teeth are prepped, a temporary bridge is bonded, and the final bridge is delivered 2–3 weeks later. No implant — uses neighboring teeth for support. Right for single-tooth gaps when neighboring teeth need crowns anyway.
Common questions.
Can every patient do same-day?
No — bone quality, infection, and bite forces all factor in. A CBCT tells us what's appropriate.
What's the difference vs. waiting 3 months?
Waiting allows the extraction site to heal cleanly before the implant goes in. Same-day means one surgery instead of two. The long-term outcome is similar with either approach when done correctly.
Cost?
Same-day implant + temp + final crown is $5,000–$7,500 all-in. Same-day bridge is $3,500–$5,500.
Missing a tooth?
A CBCT consult will tell you whether same-day is right for you — and what the alternatives actually involve.
