Whitening strips — after-care that helps.

Strips work, but they can leave teeth sensitive and gums irritated. A few simple after-care steps make a real difference.

Rinse and wait.

Rinse with cool water as soon as the strips come off — don't brush immediately (the enamel is briefly more porous). Wait 30 minutes, then brush gently with a soft-bristle brush.

Use a desensitizing toothpaste.

Potassium nitrate toothpaste (Sensodyne, Sensodyne Pronamel) for the duration of treatment and a week after. Reduces nerve sensitivity considerably.

Avoid stain-prone food and drink for 48 hours.

Coffee, tea, red wine, berries, tomato sauce, soy sauce, and curry will absorb into freshly opened enamel. Drink water, milk, or use a straw for staining drinks for 48 hours after each session.

When to stop.

Severe sensitivity that doesn't ease with potassium nitrate. White spots that get more visible (sign of dehydration — temporary). Gum burns or chemical irritation. Call us — we'll look.

Common questions.

Are strips better than dentist trays?

Strips are cheaper and less effective. Custom dentist trays whiten more evenly and let you control concentration.

How long do strip results last?

3–6 months typically. Maintenance with occasional strips or trays extends it.

Can I use strips after veneers?

Strips won't change the veneer shade — but they can lighten remaining natural teeth, which may create a mismatch. Talk to us first.

Want whitening that lasts?

Custom trays + GleamBar maintenance is what we recommend for long-term shade control.
