Whitening — after the braces come off.
The window right after braces is the right time to whiten — teeth are straight, retainers double as trays, and any decalcification spots get evened out.
Wait 4–6 weeks after debond.
Right after brackets come off, micro-cracks in the enamel are still settling and the bite is adjusting. A 4–6 week window lets things stabilize. Sensitivity is also lower.
Tackle white-spot lesions first.
If you have cloudy white patches where brackets used to sit, professional whitening can even out the contrast — the surrounding tooth brightens to match. For stubborn spots, resin infiltration (Icon) finishes the job.
Use your new retainer as a tray.
Most retainers from clear-aligner cases or Essix retainers can be used as whitening trays — we'll show you how to load the gel without it leaking onto the gums.
Common questions.
In-office or at-home after braces?
Either — many patients do in-office first for a fast result, then trays for maintenance.
Will the orthodontist whiten me?
Some do, some don't. A cosmetic dentist will think about whitening as part of the overall finished smile.
Cost?
In-office: $399. Custom tray set: $399. GleamBar membership includes both.
